Nineteenth century in the State Advocacy

Every Friday - from 15.00 to 17.00 - a permanent exhibition is open to the public, for the first time, in the headquarters of the District Attorney of Naples. A large group of nineteenth-century works from the Capodimonte Museum and from Royal Palace of Naples, deposited in the representative offices of the Avvocatura since the 1930s: little known or never seen paintings and prints. Over 40 works have been restored and enhanced for this permanent exhibition, which represents a new phase in the reconstruction of the history of nineteenth-century collections, and is ideally linked to the collections and the new nineteenth-century section recently inaugurated at the Capodimonte Museum. It is a small nineteenth-century museum in the area that will be usable by scholars and the public. After the complete reorganization of the offices, which allowed the recovery of the original space on the fourth and fifth floors of the building, designed by Marcello Canino in the Thirties, the works of art have now been rearranged in the most representative studios and corridors, accompanied by adequate lighting and explanatory captions: authors, technique, filing date, etc. provenance as well as purchases made over time and dating back to the exhibitions of the Bourbon Biennials for the paintings of the first half of the nineteenth century or dating back to the exhibitions of the Promotional Society of Fine Arts of Naples for those of the second half of the nineteenth century. A sort of consultable deposit of the nineteenth century section of the Capodimonte Museum was thus created. Among the numerous works on display, little known or never seen, the paintings by Ettore De Maria Bergler, Attilio Simonetti and Giuseppe Mancinelli are worthy of note. The project of the Naples District Attorney is really enlightened to have promoted the restoration of state works, under delivery since the early 1900s from the Capodimonte and Palazzo Reale museums. The idea of opening the recently renovated offices to the general public in which prints and paintings previously enjoyed by those who went to the building solely for work reasons have been relocated, with a new display criterion, is linked to the even more deserving will, which hopefully can be followed by other institutions, to ensure a systematic and definitive opening. The opening of the spaces in the beautiful palace of Marcello Canino, a small nineteenth-century museum in the area, ideally connects to the nineteenth-century section recently inaugurated at the Capodimonte Museum. Precisely in the light of this project, this Superintendency decided to entrust the Avvocatura with a dozen nineteenth-century paintings from the Capodimonte Museum that could integrate and expand the existing nucleus. Special thanks go to the lawyer Giuseppe Fiengo for his passion and tenacity, to the officials of this Superintendency: Mariaserena Mormone, head of the External Deposits Office and Marina Santucci, head of the Restoration laboratories, and to the group of young people, Maria Elena Maffei , Claudia Montone, Gianluca l'uccio, who collaborated in the setting up and drafted the catalog cards.
