The District Attorneys provide for the representation and defense in court of the administrations in their respective districts ( Article 9 of Law 103/79 ).
Currently there are 25 District Attorneys who have their headquarters in each regional capital and, in any case, where courts of appeal have been established.
The District Attorneys consist of the State District Attorney, Attorneys and State Attorneys.

The State District Attorney:

• supervises and supervises, in the context of the district attorney, the performance of the functions of the institute and the organization and functioning of the offices and services;
• assigns litigation and advisory affairs to attorneys and attorneys serving at the district attorney's office on the basis of criteria established by the advisory committee;
• ensures the coordination and unity of direction of the litigation and consultative activity of the district attorney, promoting the collegial examination and decision of the most important legal issues, as well as mutual information and collaboration between lawyers and prosecutors;
• determines the directives relating to the handling of disputed affairs;
• reports to the State Advocate General on the activity carried out by the district attorney, pointing out the most important disputes as well as any legislative shortcomings and interpretative problems that arise during the course of the institute's activity;
• reports to the president of the regional council for the affairs handled in the interest of the region, also by submitting specific reports and pointing out the most important disputes as well as any legislative shortcomings.
